Information on Reductive Linocut printing
Linocut is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of Lino is used for the relief surface. A design is cut into the Lino plate with a sharp knife, V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised (uncarved) areas representing a reversal (mirror image) of the parts to show printed.

The reduction method of Lino cutting uses a single piece of Lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The Lino plate is gradually cut away as each colour is printed and the image emerges. Sometimes only a very small printable area remains for the final, layer. As the plate is essentially destroyed during the process, a reduction print can never be reprinted and the entire edition must be printed in one go. Because of this it is sometimes referred to as 'suicide printing', but I can assure you, it's not so grim, I have a lot of fun Lino printing!!
